Eating disorders afflict millions
of people, thousands of which will die from them yearly. Actually
Eating Disorder is a complex compulsion to eat in a way which
disturbs physical, mental and psychological health. The eating
may be excessive (compulsive overeating) to limited (restricting);
may include normal eating punctuation with episodes of purging.
When most people hear of someone with an eating disorder, they
almost automatically assume the person has a problem with food.
Eating disorders are not a sign that a person has problem with
food rather eating disorders are actually only the symptoms
of underlying problem in that person's life. With proper treatment,
people can fully recover from this ailment.
The most heard about eating disorders are:
- Anorexia nervosa
- Bulimia nervosa

Many people with eating disorder can also
have a comorbid diagnosis of one or more of the following:
mood disorder and severe mental depression; obsessive compulsive
disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, Bipolar disorder and self-harm.
In addition, some individuals have food phobias about what
they can and cannot eat which can be characterized as eating
disorders.
